This chapter will explore a piece of reconciliation in action, from the perspective of non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social workers. In particular, this chapter will discuss the work undertaken to develop the new Preamble to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of ethics (Australian Association of Social Workers, 2010), the embedding of culturally competent, safe and sensitive practice principles throughout the Code, and the collaboration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices on this important piece of work. The chapter will go on to examine other recent steps the AASW has started to take in its newly envisioned reconciliation journey, and the significant work still to be done to achieve equality.
