A transformation away from a carbon-based economy is essential for sustainable development and such a transformation required a new approach to education which embedded the concepts of sustainability. The course 'Sustainability in the Built Environment' is the first course that will be delivered under a 'blended mode' within the School of Property, Construction and Project Management at RMIT University. The course was delivered mainly online with couple of face-to-face workshops where students will be exposed to the principles and practices of environmental sustainable design. The course helped students to develop global awareness and understanding of environmental issues and responses and help to develop lifelong learning capability. This paper is focus on lessons learnt from the development and delivering of the blended course and provides suggestions and recommendations for future implementation into the Construction Management Program. The face-to-face workshops and the discussion board sessions were found to be encouraging a higher order of critical thinking among the students. The main challenges found were the conversion process and implementation from a face-to-face course to a blended course. Timetabling clashes and IT support for effective delivery of a primarily online course were some other important issues that need to be addressed.
