Plate-shaped athermal co phase (omega(P)) has been observed for the first time in an as-quenched Ti-5.26 wt.% Cr alloy, forming a plate pair with alpha' martensite. The orientation relationship is determined as: [0 (1) over bar1](beta) // [2 (1) over bar(1) over bar0] // [0001](alpha)', (222)(beta) // (0001)(omega p) 0.5 degrees away from (11 (2) over bar0)(alpha)' with the habit plane (5 (4) over bar(4) over bar)(beta) // (0 (6) over bar(6) over bar1)(omega P) // (3 (4) over bar 10),e. Such observations are explained well using the edge-to-edge matching model. The singular alpha'/omega(P)", interface implies that alpha' martensite is likely to act as a heterogeneous nucleation site for omega(P).
